Health nd Fittness
Related to country: Kenya

Have you ever wondered why there are so many people suffering from chronic diseases, I suggest you visit the Nation media group site [www.nationmedia.com] and read the main article in the Sunday Nation of 8th July 2007, on health and fittness.
The information era seems to have transformed our society into a fast things society resulting into people having less time for traditional yet important things as cooking. How many of us have potato chips and fried chicken, burgers, pizza and the like as their staple food? The stores are not forgiving either as the foods row is always fully lined with highly processed foods. Most of these are high in artificial agents, high sugar, salt or fat content dont forget the preservatives since they have to be maintained on the shelf.
I have been a culprit and can I say my sweet tooth is to blame? We are victims in one way or another of this tasty killers. It is like passing a death sentence on oneself.
Take good care of your health by living and eating right and you will not regret it.

Youth and Governance

Youth Involvement in National Affairs
In the past years we have seen how much Kenyan urban youth have been working towards being included in crucial decision making positions in the leadership in the land. It is a good initiative because in fact it was such that led to the birth of the youth parliament. One question lingers though; how effective is the youth parliament in deliberating on these issues and since the conception of this noble idea what achievements have they made so far? I question so many things about the youth parliament especially because it lacks the national picture it should be having. A number of Kenyan youth will admit that they do not know much about this organization. I do not want to discredit the idea of youth being involved in such a way however as youth lets make our actions more transparent to help kill the corruption bug that seems to be biting every sector of our economy. Najivunia Kuwa Mkenya and I truly appreciate the much the government has done this far. Lets us vote with our heads not our stomachs!
I just have to share with you some symbolism about the stomach and you will discover just how much power the way of the stomach holds.

When you read the biblical story of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden; Jacob (who later became Israel) and his brother Esau; and Jesus Christ, You can see that by subduing to the stomachs demands we are definitely putting ourselves in compromising losing situations.
You may be interested to know briefly whatever transpired in each case- I will do a short description.
Adam and Eve: freedom and ownership
They were the first human creation subsequently earned a huge chunk of God’s favour [they were given dominion over the earth and all that is within it]. However the tempter, Satan a fallen angel from the heavenly realms tricked them into eating the forbidden fruit attaching many promises of wisdom and prosperity which would come along. What Adam and his wife forgot was that they already had dominion and authority over what they were being promised so they fell for the small trick to satisfy their desires. This ended up being the biggest mistake they would have made because they lost favour in God’s eyes and were expelled from the rich beautiful Eden into struggle, survival, suffering and ultimately death.
The lesson I want you to learn from this Genesis story in regard to life politics and voting so much inclusive is this; we need to realize that what people promise to give is already ours, when we sell our right to possession no matter at what fee we become enslaved to these people. Kenyans this is your right, the vote, you must not sell it, and you may feel that one vote may not have a significant difference but remember that as long as you have 99 shillings it is never 100 until you add 1! Make that change today!

Jacob and Esau: dispossession
Esau the eldest son of Isaac who was the heir to his father’s birth right by virtue of being the first born son lost his birth right to Jacob trading it for a bowl of morsels.
He allowed hunger to control him thus lost to the desires of the stomach.

Jesus Christ: Victory
The temptations of Jesus in the wilderness when he was fasting for 40 days and nights were all intended to make Him fall and give up His ministry to save mankind from our sins. He resisted the urge to satisfy the desires of the stomach for the good of many. He commanded victory over all these and conquered death to which Adam had been cursed.
I encourage you not to allow to be bribed into doing anything against your will because victory will come.

"Have you ever wondered why people seem to be falling sick so often?" This was a line in one of the advertisements and guess what, the conclusion was that because people did not use the said disinfectant! Well this may be true but that is a story for another day the issue is- how much have we contributed to the distruction of nature? I ponder about this everyday especially when I have to walk through a congested city with heavy traffic, alot of polution form the vehicle exhausts and factory emmissions. Neiter is the hot sun forgiving as it scorches my already burnt skin! When it rains it is equally unbearable as the drainage system is not in good order- believe me I have had to dispose off a number of pairs of shoes on those rainy days when I literally wadded in the water. What are we doing about these- that is what one could ask.
Pollution is a major problem facing the world if you can recall the heated debate on carbondioxide emissions. Researchers keep saying that the ozone layer is being depleted at a very high rate thanks to the polution. We are the ones who will suffer from our own actions and we must do something.
The Kenyan Government budget 2007-2008 by the Minister of Finance Hon. Amos Kimunya was harsh on plastic bags manufacturers slapping 120% excise tax on their product which was done inorder to reduce the use of thin plastic. Plastic is non organic and tis effects to the earth are dire. In my town because of poor waste collection there are so many areas that now have plastic for cover- if the trend continues, what is likely to happen is 20years to come?
I encourage us to join the anti plastics campaign to save our earth.
